Capsule Endoscopy

Capsule endoscopy uses a video capsule to examine the lining of the entire small intestine. It is a simple test. You will be required to swallow the vitamin pill sized video capsule which has its own camera and light source. The capsule camera takes photographs every second. A capsule study lasts 8 hours during which time you are free to move around. The capsule sends images to a data recorder that you will wear on a waist belt.

How will it help me?

A Capsule Study will help to determine the cause for recurrent, persistent and unexplained iron deficiency anaemia. A Capsule Study also  obtains motility data including gastric and small bowel passage time.

Risks Associated with Capsule Endoscopy

  • If you have new abdominal discomfort after investigation by camera, please inform your doctor.
